These are the terms of your Smoke & Iron Letters subscription — written plainly, applied fairly.

By subscribing to Smoke & Iron Letters, you agree to the following terms. We've kept them clear and fair. If something isn't covered here, reach out and we'll give you a straight answer.

The Subscription

Smoke & Iron Letters is a physical monthly subscription service. Each month, subscribers receive one dispatch — a thick kraft envelope containing Silas Crowe's letter and a set of collectible cards and inserts — delivered to the mailing address provided at checkout.

Two subscription options are available:

- Annual: $219 prepaid for 12 months. This is the best value and our recommended option — one full year of dispatches delivered monthly.

- Monthly: $27 per month, billed monthly on the date of your initial subscription (12-month commitment required).

Your subscription begins on the date your first dispatch ships.

Billing & Payment

- Annual subscriptions are billed in full at the time of purchase

- Monthly subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly basis on your subscription start date

- All prices are listed in US dollars

- Payment is processed securely through our payment provider. We do not store full card details on our servers

- You will receive an email confirmation following each successful payment

- If a payment fails, we will notify you by email and attempt to process it again. Failure to resolve a payment issue within 7 days may result in a pause or cancellation of your subscription

Shipping & Delivery

- Dispatches ship once per month, typically within the first week of each dispatch month

- Shipping is included in your subscription price for addresses within the United States

- International shipping may be available at additional cost — contact us at [email protected] for current options and rates

- We are not responsible for delays caused by postal carriers once a dispatch has been handed off for delivery

- If a dispatch does not arrive within 21 days of your expected ship date, contact us and we will make it right

Cancellation Policy

Annual subscriptions: Annual subscriptions are prepaid in full and cover 12 consecutive monthly dispatches. Because each dispatch is prepared and shipped on a fixed schedule, annual subscriptions are non-refundable once the first dispatch has shipped. If you experience a significant issue, contact us — we'll work with you reasonably.

Monthly subscriptions: Monthly subscriptions may be cancelled at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will receive all dispatches paid for prior to cancellation. No partial-month refunds are issued.

Refunds

We stand behind what we ship. If a dispatch arrives damaged or an item is missing, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will replace it at no charge.

Refunds are not issued for change of mind once a dispatch has shipped. If you have a concern that doesn't fit neatly into these terms, write to us. We'll treat you fairly.

Address Changes

It is your responsibility to keep your mailing address current. To update your address, contact us at [email protected] at least 7 days before your next dispatch ships.

We are not responsible for dispatches shipped to an outdated address provided by the subscriber.

Physical Items

All physical items included in your dispatch — letters, cards, and inserts — are not eligible for return once shipped.

Intellectual Property

All written content, character voice, card designs, and brand assets associated with Smoke & Iron Letters — including the Silas Crowe character, The Back Porch Dispatches, and all dispatch contents — are the intellectual property of Smoke & Iron Letters. They may not be reproduced, distributed, or used without written permission.

Limitation of Liability

Smoke & Iron Letters is not liable for losses or damages beyond the value of the subscription in question. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including postal service disruptions, natural events, or other force majeure situations.

Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Active subscribers will be notified by email of any material changes. Continued subscription following notification constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
